Prepare for the SAT or ACT or just expand your vocabulary with WordSmart High School Excellence. This WordSmart collection covers 2800 definitions and 400 core words and takes our “TopTenREVIEWS Silver Award” for vocabulary software.

We found this program easy to use and it offers valid and grammatically correct information. This software can quickly increase your vocabulary and reading comprehension in just a few hours per week.

WordSmart provides several vocabulary packages, which are alike except for the specific vocabulary disks included. The High School series includes the Quick Start DVD, Word Smart Challenge CD, Progressive Reader and Vocabulary disks C and D while our number one choice, Adult Learning Excellence, includes the more advanced vocabulary disks F and G.

Teaching Tools:  

WordSmart provides flash cards, multiple choice quizzes, word matching, games, sentence completions and audio pronunciations. It also tracks progress and advances the student once a section is adequately passed.

Subjects Covered:  

The WordSmart C and D vocabulary disks include 10,000 pronounced words, 2800 defined words and 400 core words. These disks are perfect for students preparing for the SAT or ACT tests or for advanced ESL students. These word sets include words like respire, priestly, fluctuate and insular. These vocabulary sets may also be suitable for some adult learners.

Instruction Quality:  

The C and D WordSmart disks appeared to have correct word associations and satisfactory grammar. However, the extra disk, “Progressive Reader,” had grammar errors or typos in the speed reading assessment. In addition, you have to change your screen display to get the disks to work We had to change ours from 1280 X 1024 pixels to 800 X 600 pixels and than we had to change it back when we were done, this was aggravating.

Summary:  

WordSmart High School Excellence is one of the best vocabulary programs available and is more accurate than most. We found the software easy to use and believe that the WordSmart disks can help you increase your vocabulary and reading comprehension as well as raise SAT/ACT test scores and boost test taking confidence.
