This program is one of three programs offered by Merit Software. Vocabulary Stretch is the first in the series and covers root words and vocabulary suitable for grade school, junior high and ESL students.
This program goes behind simple memorization. It offers exercises like word matches where students have to choose a word in one list that best relates to a word in the second list, such as instruct and teacher and remain and leftovers. Vocabulary Stretch also has a section where it displays a paragraph with the vocabulary in use and the student has to decide which definition matches the meaning of how the vocabulary word is used in the paragraph. These two quizzes are followed by a crossword puzzle. When you complete the program it offers a graphic reward, but compared to modern video game graphics it is not too exciting.
We did not find any grammar or usage errors in this particular program, but it only covers 192 words and for about the same amount of money you can get 12,000 from Vocaboly.
